Odor is a matter in the gaseous state which cannot be touched or noticed but allows its source to be traced. Rubber industry is a source of
odor pollution and other problems affecting health, environment, and surrounding communities.
Human’s olfactory receptor organ is nose. Sensory system in the nose starts with detection of stimuli. Then, sensory pulses are created and
transmitted to the brain. The odor which can effectively stimulate human’s olfactory nerve shall be evaporable, water-soluble, and fatsoluble.
Evaporability would allow the odor to evaporate into nasal cavity. Water-solubility allows the odor to dissolve in water and percolate
through the mucus towards olfactory cells. Fat-solubility is critical since neurons and olfactory nerve endings contain fat.
In 2018, the Company installed odor treatment machine which using Cold Plasma and Wet Scrubber at the first point, Banbary 11 at Mixing no. 4. After the installation, the odor from this machine was treated for 94%.

Sumitomo (Thailand) Co., Ltd. is aware of odor pollution, caused by rubber which is main raw material of the Company, occurs during manufacturing process. Odor from rubber industry causes various adverse effects on environment, physical and mental health, and surrounding communities. Therefore, the Company installed Oder treatment machine for deodorizing the air before emitting to environment.
